Durasteel shields fireman's stairwell enclosure at Heathrow Terminal 5

Invicta’s Durasteel division has recently completed passive fire protection works on London Heathrow Terminal 5.

Invicta designed and installed a unique fireman’s escape stairwell enclosure below the apron in order to ensure firemen safe and continued access to underground service and access tunnels in the event of an above-ground airside fire.

Our solution was to install a 4-sided fire protected Durasteel enclosure which fully encased the stairwell to a depth of 15m. The enclosure provides the stairwell with 2 hour integrity and insulation fire protection, and was finished with a fire protected lobby area at the base and 2 sets of Durasteel DD240 4 hour fire doors.

The project was completed within the 4 week deadline and to budget.
