Substation Fire & Blast Protection

Electrical substations are often situated close to residential and industrial areas, and pose a potential blast and fire risk. In cities and other urban areas, they can also be constructed in the basements of buildings – making it critical they are properly protected from the risk of fires and blasts, and isolated from the rest of the building in the event of an emergency.

Offering the best in fire and blast protection, Invicta Durasteel is an ideal choice for protecting your substation. Our systems are tested to numerous international standards, including those from Certifire, UKPN, DEWA and Kahramaa, and are widely deployed across Europe and the Middle East.

Durasteel barriers are fire-rated up to four hours, and resistant to the most intense blasts and explosions. Strong, lightweight and unyielding, Durasteel is ideal for a range of applications in and around a substation – ensuring that both operators and the public are comprehensively protected from the risk of fires and blasts.

Durasteel for substations is commonly used for ventilation ducts, ensuring that an enclosed transformer is naturally ventilated and cooled. In an enclosed space, Durasteel may also be used for protective baffles – suppressing the noise and heat created by the transformers – as well as for cavity closure protection.

One common use of Durasteel for power substations is the use of demountable Durasteel barriers. Deployed on one or more sides of a structure in place of concrete, demountable barriers allow for the equipment inside to be removed without demolishing part of the structure, saving time and money without compromising on safety.
